Birth of Three Tiers

During Camp NaNoWriMo in 2014, I had an idea to write a Space Opera for my Father-in-Law for his birthday the following October. I didn’t finish the whole story, but fell in love with the world I was building.
Three Tiers was born.

Three Tiers is a dear and familiar story, told in a new and intriguing way.

Hundreds of generations after humans left Earth they live on space Stations and roughly terraformed planets tens of thousands of light-years away from where they evolved. One Station acts as a casino in space and offers its customers the “authentic experience from the twentieth century on Earth.” The residents of the Station, as well as the physical objects contained within, are the sole property of the Station Owner. The Station is separated into three tiers to maintain efficiency, order and peace, and the different tiers’ inhabitants are forbidden to interact with one another. Imagine how a First Tier woman’s world is turned upside down when she ends up falling in love with a Third Tier man! Her world becomes even more complicated when just days later her father announces he’s arranged her marriage with his protégé.

Missy Kirtley’s debut, young adult, science fiction novel is 50,000 words long. The book’s protagonist has just become an adult, though still acts as a teenager in a lot of ways. This holds appeal for teenage and new adult readers alike. The story’s setting resonates with science fiction fans who love things like Star Trek, but the main character’s dilemma will be enticing to fans of love triangles and soap operas.
